Review: Dinner @ LHL Seafood Restaurant, Scarborough

LHL Seafood (I wonder what LHL stands for?) is one of the recommended restaurants from my dad.  He really likes to come here with his friends for dim sum or dinner.

On his recommendation, we came here one evening to try their Peking duck.  The restaurant is located on the 2nd (or was it 3rd?) floor of a mall, which is great because there is plenty of underground parking, and I can see this being an advantage on a cold winter night.

There was a wedding that evening when we went, so we had to go around the front entrance and enter in from the side so as not to disturb the wedding.  Unfortunately, the only washroom in the restaurant is within the wedding area, so we had to awkwardly pass by all the wedding guests to use the WC.  And speaking of the WC, wow it is really in some desperate need for renovations… not only was it worn out and smelly, the lock on the door fell out so you have to keep one hand on the stall door while you do your business. Not. Cool.

The food themselves are not that great either.  Everything is on the oily side, and the Peking duck wraps were small, dried and shrivelled up.  The one good dish that I would recommend is the HK Style stir fry lobster with generous portions of garlic.

I really couldn't bring myself to recommend this place.  I am assuming that the price is good, or that it is at a very convenient location, because otherwise I'm not sure who would ever come here.

What was ordered

  • 4/5 good
    • HK style stir fry lobster with garlic
  • 3/5 average
    • Peking duck
    • Steamed chicken

Summary

  • The Bottom Line: cheap, but food is oily.
  • Score: 3/5
  • Address: Oriental Center, 4438 Sheppard Avenue East

Review: Dinner @ Casa Deluz, Scarborough

I was recently at Casa Deluz for a fundraising banquet/ dinner gala.

The restaurant is located within a very busy mall, and despite the difficulty in finding a parking spot, the restaurant interior is well decorated.  This is a large restaurant, great for large corporate events.

The food itself is decent.  Not bad, not great.  I really enjoyed the coconut jelly, it was so good I had three!

Summary

  • Bottom Line: Decent food quality, parking can be a hassle.
  • Score: 3.5/5
  • Address: 1571 Sandhurst Cir #107, Scarborough (NE of Finch & McCowan)

Review: Archery Circuit, Scarborough

Archery Circuit is similar to Archery Tag, but I think the decors are a little nicer here, although it's too bad that they never turned on the black light for us.

There is a brief lesson and targets where you can practice your shots, then into the arena for the game.  I'm happy to see that they provide forearm protectors so your forearm won't get bruised from bow string.

Summary

  • Bottom Line: still not my thing, but could be fun for some
  • Score: 3/5

Review: Drinks @ Fruit Jungle, Toronto

Fruit Jungle is located in the same plaza as One 2 Snacks, and if you read my review on One 2 Snacks, orders take a while to fulfill, so my recommendation is that once you place the order at One 2 Snacks, walk over to Jungle Juice and have a fresh juice while you wait.

Fruit Jungle heavily advertises on their "three promises" - no artificial power or syrup, no ice cubes, and chewy tapioca pearls.

I ordered a large lychee pear juice, and it was delicious.  For about $6 (incl tax), it is a much better deal than other bubble tea places. Plus you really can taste the real fruits!

The only suggestion I would have is for them to tidy up the store, there are boxes piled high all over the store and it just wasn't a very inviting store front.

What I ordered

  • 5/5 excellent
    • Lychee Pear Juice

Summary

  • The Bottom Line - delicious real fruit juice for a good value
  • Score: 4.5/5
  • Address: Agincourt Plaza, 8 Glen Watford Drive, Scarborough (Sheppard & Midland)

Review: Lunch @ One 2 Snacks, Toronto

Fantastic little place for Malaysian food.  We came here on a Saturday afternoon, and the small shop is packed with patrons.  Orders take about 40 minutes, so call ahead before you come, or just be prepared for a long wait. Next time, I would love to come back and try their Malaysian desserts, but you have to come within 2 hours of opening or else they run out.  The restaurant is small, and although there are some stools and a few tables where you can eat, there is simply too much foot traffic for it to be a comfortable dining area - take out is recommended.

What we ordered:

  • 5/5 excellent
    • Char Kway Teow
  • 4/5 very good
    • Chicken Satay
  • 3/5 average
    • Curry Laksa - too spicy

Summary

  • The Bottom Line: great little place for Malaysian food take out.
  • Score: 8.3/10
    • 4/5 for food quality
    • 5/5 for value
    • 1/2 for environment
    • 1.5/2 for service
    • 1/1 for hitting the spot
  • Address: Agincourt Plaza, 8 Glen Watford Drive, Unit 26, Scarborough (Sheppard & Midland)
