Review: Lunch @ Grilled Cheese Social Eatery, Barrie

We stopped by the Grilled Cheese Social Eatery on our way to the cottages at Go Home Lake, where we are visiting relatives.  The shop is along the main street in Barrie, Dunlop Street East. There are some limited street parking, but plenty of parking lots in the side streets.

The entrance is easily recognizable by the patio seats that seem to have partially taken over the road.

Once we enter, we were greeted by a very friendly chef (I'm guessing owner?).  I asked for some suggestions, this being my first time, and he quickly recommended the Spirit Catcher, the Tomavo, and the Green Goddess.

We end up ordering the Tomavo, the Wake & Bacon, and a coffee.  Unfortunately for us, we had our order to go, and didn't get to try it until we're at the cottage, which was more than an hour later.  By that time, our grilled cheese sandwiches were already cold, and have lost some of that crunchy goodness.  Don't get me wrong, it was still delicious (and VERY heavy and filling), but next time I will make sure we have enough time to sit down and properly enjoy a fresh hot sandwich.

One other thing, I really liked how they have decorated the washroom.  I can tell that the owners have put a lot of heart into this Eatery.

What we had ordered

  • 5/5 Excellent
    • Tomavo
  • 4/5 Good
    • Wake & Bacon
  • 3/5 Average
    • Coffee

Summary

  • The Bottom Line: great joint in Barrie for grilled cheese sandwiches.
  • Score: 4.5/5
  • Address: 53 Dunlop Street East, Barrie
